Jody Herring is a troubled Vermont woman with an addiction to drugs and alcohol that causes her to lose custody of her three children. Family and friends are there for her but are also concerned about her behavior, which also leads to a breakup with a lover and an attempted suicide. In August 2015, she steals a hunting rifle then murders her aunt Julie Falzarano and her cousins Regina and Rhonda Herring, before driving to the Department for Children and Families and murdering social worker Lara Sobel. Unrepentant and remorseless, she pleads guilty to one count of first-degree murder and three counts of second-degree murder and is permanently separated from her children when she is sentenced to life without parole.
