Piper Rountree is a narcissistic woman who shot her ex-husband for leaving her.

In 1999, her life was falling apart and she started drinking. She was narcissistic and didn't see she wasn't great at being a lawyer or a mother.

Her husband filed for divorce after he discovered she was cheating on him with a doctor in Richmond. He gained custody of her children.

Shortly after the divorce, she took trips to a firing range, practicing shooting with a .38 caliber revolver.

Rountree exacted her vengeance on the very early morning of October 30, 2004. Piper had bought two wigs, one blonde and one red, and hoped to use the red one to escape. Using her sister Tina's identity, Piper rented a hotel room for two days in Richmond while Fred Jablin thought she was in Houston. A clerk noticed that Piper was wearing a wig and that she wouldn't make eye contact. Her behavior and her constant use of her cell phone (enabling GPS tracking) resulted in her arrest.

On Saturday, October 30, 2004, Piper hid behind Fred's van early in the morning as he went outside to get the morning newspaper. Fred noticed someone was moving and asked who was it. Piper came around and said "You know who it is, Fred!" and shot him twice. She immediately made her getaway to Houston, 500 miles away.

While the narcissistic Rountree thought she had committed the perfect murder, she left various amounts of circumstantial evidence in her wake. Her purchase of wigs, using a rental car, going to gun ranges to practice and using her sister's identity. She checked her gun at the airport to Richmond but did not check it in on the way back to Houston. Her constant use of her phone, with her children recognizing her voice, was also a clue.

Days after the murder, Rountree was arrested and sentenced to life in prison plus 60 years.
